Darren Cottrill earned four varsity letters in his time as a defensive back at IUP. He garnered first team All-PSAC West honors in 1987 and 1988. In his four years with the IUP football program, the team went 35-9-1 (.789), and won three division and two conference championships. The team amassed a 23-1 record in PSAC West play during his four years. IUP participated in the NCAA
Division II national playoffs in two of
Cottrill’s four seasons.
Cottrill and fellow inductee Stan Celich were part of a 1988 defense that stymied opponent offenses better than any team in school history. IUP’s defense held opponents to only 826 yards in 11 games, an average of 75.1 rushing yards per game. No other defense in IUP history has allowed fewer yards per game.
Cottrill earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from IUP in 1988. He is now the President of American Destiny Real Estate. Cottrill and his wife, Chrystal, have three children, Matthew (18), Emily (16) and Connor (14).
