Dave Maudie

A national champion and a two-time PSAC champion, Dave Maudie is one of the best javelin throwers ever at IUP, a school renowned for its success in that event.

Maudie, who came to IUP from Blairsville High School. capped his outstanding collegiate career at the 1987 NCAA Division II track and field meet by winning the national title in the javelin with a throw of 2 16 feet, eight inches.

In 1986, he placed fifth at the national meet with a throw of 205 feet. one inch to earn A ll-America honors for the first time in his career. That year Maudie placed first in four of the team's six regular season meets, including the IUP Invitational. He captured a second place finish at the PSAC meet to help IUP finish second in the
team standings.

In 1985, he took first at the PSAC meet with a throw of 228 feet, three inches and that propelled him to a 10th place showing at the national meet
with a best effort of 22 1 feet. four inches. Maudie was also third at the 1987 PSAC meet and qualified for nationals all four years at IUP.

Maudie was the head track and field coach at Twin Valley High School in the three years after leaving I UP. During that time. his team never lost a meet within its division and won the county championship twice. He coached track and field at Daniel Boone High School for two years and was a health and physical education teacher during the five years that he coached.

Maudie is currently the district director of the Greater Pittsburgh Council of Boy Scouts of America.

Maudie and his wife Carol are the parents of Jessica Ellioll. Justin. Kenneth. Zachary and Benjamen.
