Dave Seidel earned a lasting reputation as an outstanding football player and coach that will long outlive his untimely passing last August 21.

Seidel spent four seasons as one of the top rushers in IUP history, finishing his career in 1985 with 2, 117 yards to rank second at the time of his graduation and currently standing in 11th place. He is also seventh in rushing attempts with 489 and was also adept at catching the ball coming out of the backfield, a skill evidenced with his 12 receptions in a 1985 contest against Lehigh.

As a senior in 1985, Seidel was named the recipient of the Thomas Westhoff Memorial Award as IUP's most valuable offensive player and was an honorable mention All-American fullback.

Following his graduation from IUP, Seidel was a successful businessman and coach in Johnstown, Pa. He was the owner of The Haven restaurant and sports bar for 19 years and served as defensive coordinator for his alma mater, Bishop McCort High School, for 13 years. During that time he helped the Crushers win four District 6 championships and post a record of 96-26. Seidel also had as tint as head track and field coach at the school.

One of his players at Bishop McCort was his son, Josh, who is a freshman football player at IUP.  Josh tied his father's high school single-game record when he scored six touchdowns last season against Richland.

Dave had accomplished the same feat against Ligonier in 1981 as part of a senior year in which he rushed for 1,469 yards and scored 24 touchdowns, earning a spot in the prestigious Big 33 game and receiving the Point Stadium Award.
Seidel had another son, Chris, with his wife Pam.
