Brinkley flashed his speed as a two-sport athlete, competing in both track & field and football while at IUP, lettering in each sport all four years. A four-time All-American in track,
Brinkley wrapped up his career as a national title holder in the 400 meter hurdles, winning the event at the 2001 NCAA Division II Championships with a time of 51.17, still an IUP record. He finished in the top five nationally in each of his four seasons. He took home four 400 meter hurdle titles at the PSAC meet, establishing a then-record as a freshman, while also winning twice in the 100 hurdles.
On the football field, Brinkley caught over 50 passes for more than 700 yards and two touchdowns, playing on teams that went a combined 32-8, including a trip to the national semifinals in 1999.
A health & physical education teacher as well as a track and football coach, he and his wife Katie have two children, son Brady and daughter Kylie.
