Duty, honor, commitment. These are the traits that helped Frank Yusi achieve greatness on the gridiron while at IUP. But, more important, they are the qualities that led him to a successful 25-year career as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

From 1960 through 1964, Yusi played both center and linebacker for IUP. He was a three-year letter winner, and earned distinction being named center for IUP’s 1960s All-Decade Team. Yusi earned first-team honors as both an All-PSAC linebacker in 1964 and an all All-District center in 1963. As a captain with the U.S. Navy from 1965 through 1989, Yusi was named to the Legion of Merit and earned a Bronze Star with Combat V, three Purple Hearts, and numerous additional awards and honors.

Yusi graduated from Moon Area High School in Coraopolis, PA, before attending IUP, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1965. He later earned an MBA from Salve Regina College in Newport, RI, in 1985.

Sadly, Yusi passed away in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Connie, who lives today in Ashburn, VA, and their three grown children, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Gregory.
