After graduating from Indiana State Teachers College in 1956, Glarner went on to coach football at the high school level. He was an assistant for Ford City and Swissvale for six years, before accepting the head coaching job at Swissvale High in 1963. During his tenure, Glarner was a four-time ALLE-MON Conference Coach of the Year.
In 1970, Glarner began a career with QSP, Inc. where he worked as a sales and account manager for over 26 years. In 1980, Glarner and his wife Betty founded Armology of Western PA, a metal finishing company that Glarner served as president for until he retired in 2000.
George and Betty are the parents of George III, Gregory, and Beth Anne.
