How do you top a college career flush with distinction and a stint as a player in the National Football League? Simple – you become a teacher and coach, helping young people get as much out of sports as you did.
That’s the story of Jim Angelo, who played offensive tackle for IUP from 1982 through 1986, earning accolades including All ECAC, All Conference, Kodak All-American, Associated Press All-American, and who served as captain of the Big Indian squad. He followed his collegiate career with a year as offensive tackle with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.
Today, Angelo instructs physical education classes and coaches sports, working with students at Fox Chapel Area High School in suburban Pittsburgh.
The native of Indiana, PA, attended Indiana Area High School. At IUP, he earned both a bachelor’s degree in physical education and sport in 1986, as well as a master’s degree in sport science in 1989. He lives in Lower Burrell, PA, with his wife, Linda. The couple has three grown children, Vincent, Courtney, and Edward.
