An Indiana State Teacher’s College (ITSC) Gold Award winner, Marefka was a four-year letterman in both football and baseball. An all-conference selection in 1954 and 1955, he also earned AP Little All-American honors and was a second team all-state selection during his time on campus.
Marefka also earned accolades from the Pittsburgh Press after he graduated, being named to the all-area college first team while also being selected as a member of the ISTC all-time team, covering 1927-1960.
On the baseball diamond, Marefka led the team with a .401 batting average in 1956.
After graduation, Marefka worked as a rubber chemist, co-founding Graphic Arts Rubber and Qualiform Rubber, both in Northeast Ohio. He also established Kleen Polymers, also based in Ohio.
Marefka lives in Ohio with his partner Pat Lawrence, and has three sons, John, Williams and Richard, and daughter Karen.
