Julie Hess is one of the best field hockey players IUP has ever seen. After graduating from Upper Perkiomen High School, she made an immediate impact her freshman year being named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and making the All-PSAC first team.
During her time at IUP, Hess set multiple records, including 54 career goals and 141 points, two marks that still stand today. She became the first IUP field hockey player to score four goals in a game (in 2001), a mark that is still tied for first all-time.
Hess held single season records for goals (19), points (45), and assists (10), the first two coming during her standout freshman season. She was a four-time All-PSAC selection, including a three-time first team pick.
Hess received her Ph.D. in psychology at Louisiana State University in 2012. She currently resides in Blue Bell with her husband Brian and their children, Austin and Aubrey.
