Moore enrolled at IUP in 1980 to major in business and to play football for Coach Owen Dougherty, Moore achieved in ways that set him apart both athletically and academically.
First, immediately after his freshman campaign, he was named to the NAIA District 18 all-star team on both offense and defense, at tailback and as a free safety.
Then as both a junior and senior, he became the First IUP student-athlete to be selected as both an “on-field” And Academic All-American in any sport as he made the AP/Associated Press second team and the sport's Academic first team.
Moore's name remains in the IUP defensive record book for having returned the 18 passes he intercepted in his career (one fewer than the team record) more yards (307) than anyone through the years.
Also making Moore distinctive were his being selected class president and as student representative to the university Board of Trustees.
After graduating summa cum laude in '83, having played his junior and senior seasons for coach George Chaump, with a degree in human resource management and management information system, he became the first IUP alum extended a NCAA graduate fellowship and was accepted by the Harvard School of Business.
Moore accepted, instead, a free-agent contract from the National Football League Buffalo Bills. To the disappointment of IUP fans who felt that the Bills may not have given him a close look once in camp, that route reached a premature close.
He was, however, drafted by the Pittsburgh Maulers of the warm-weather USFL/United States Football League. The league, however, folded its tents while Moore was on the roster.
Returning to his home Westmoreland County in 1985, Moore became general sales manager for the multi-sited Smail Family of Dealerships. He remained there 11 years, earning a Master Manager Award and ranking nationally in ales performance.
Since 1997 he has been in partnership as an owner/manager of Pinnacle Auto Sales near Irwin and Jeannette, a venture that has resulted annually in high-volume sales. And, since 1992, he has been a partner in the Kingston Golf Center near Derry.
Married to the former Terri Hofe for the past nine years. Moore is the father of two daughters, Rachel Lee, 4, and Haley Nicole, 2.
