IUP Hall of Fame golf coach Ed Sloniger said in 1981 that Kent Stauffer. "Was the most consistent golfer ever to play at IUP.''
And Stauffer, who earned All-America honors seven times, was the mark of consistency, not to mention success. He was a four-time NCAA Di vision II All-America and was named to the NAJA All-America squad three times.
As a senior in 1981, Stauffer turned in a fifth place showing at the NAIA tournament while finishing five shots back of the winner. At the NCAA tournament he was 19th and IUP was sixth in the team standings.
With an average round of 75.5 in 1980, Stauffer led IUP to a first place finish three times and second place at the PSAC tournament. Stauffer lost medalist honors at the conference tournament in a playoff.
That year IUP finished second at the NAIA tournament as Stauffer placed fourth in the individual standings, only six shots off the pace. At the NCAA championships, Stauffer was 12th, nine shots back of the winner.
As a sophomore, Stauffer was fifth at the NCAAs and led IUP to four tournament victories, including the PSAC tourney. After graduating from Bradford High School in 1977, Stauffer placed seventh as a freshman at the NAIA tournament and 15th at the NCAA championships.
