When patients at Indiana Regional Medical Center get exercise treatment from Mindy Sawtelle-Zottola, they probably have no idea of who the champion athlete working with them really is. If they did, they might not believe it – but it’s all true.
A member of the IUP Cross Country team, Sawtelle-Zottola was a distance runner, but that doesn’t begin to tell the full story. Between 2002 and 2005, she earned distinction as a nine-time State Champion, an eight-time All-American, a regional champion and Athlete of the Year. She also ran as a distance runner for IUP on both the indoor and outdoor Track teams. Her interest in distance running continues today, with participation in 25 marathons, including the 2000 Olympic Marathon Trials.
The native of Clearfield, PA, attended Clearfield High School. At IUP, Sawtelle-Zottola earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology in 2005. She lives in Indiana, PA, with her husband, Art, and their four children, Kristina, Kirsten, Kylen, and Kayleigh.
