Whether it was on the court, the field or the classroom, Molly Carr was a star.

Carr was a four-year starter on the basketball team and as soon as that season ended she traded her sneakers for cleats as one of the top shortstops in Division II softball. By the time she completed her college career in 1999, Carr had made an indelible mark on the history of IUP athletics.

Carr was the senior catalyst of the 1998-99 women's basketball team that emerged from a long stretch of mediocrity to win 26 games and defeat Millersville and Shippensburg in the NCAA East Regional to qualify for the Elite Eight for the only time in school history.

Carr scored a team-high 37 points in those two victories and was the tournament MVP while also earning a spot on the AII-PSAC West first team. She ranks 14th in school history with 1,152 points and is fourth with 257 steals, fifth with 101 3-pointers and 315 made free throws and 11th with 608 rebounds and 278 assists.

On the diamond, Carr was a member of softball teams that won at least 20 games each season, topped off by a 1999 campaign that saw IUP earn its first berth in the NCAA tournament.

She batted .354 that season and was the PSAC West Player of the Year and was first team all-conference for the third time.

Despite missing several games due to her basketball commitments, she ranks second with a .363 batting average, 34 doubles and 28 stolen bases, third with a .569 slugging percentage, fourth with 97 runs batted in and 13 triples, fifth with 96 runs scored and sixth with 153 hits and 240 total bases.

Even with her athletic accomplishments, it was Carr's work in the classroom that set her apart from other student-athletes. While juggling the demands of being a star on two teams, Carr was able to maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average during her entire college career.

Her academic success resulted in a host of awards, including back-to-back selections as the PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Four times in a span of three years she was honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-American, and she was named the IUP Woman of the Year in 1999.

Carr earned a master's degree in sports management from IUP in 2001. She is teaching fifth grade at Saltsburg Elementary School and is the volleyball coach at Saltsburg Junior High School. She was the varsity basketball coach at Homer-Center High School from 2001-05.
