A three-sport athlete at Indiana State Teacher’s College (ISTC), Kish participated in football, boxing and baseball during his time in school.
Playing a multitude of positions on the football field, Kish played quarterback/halfback on offense, linebacker and defensive back on defense, and also handled all kicking chores for ISTC.
In the boxing ring, Kish was a two-year letterman in the 165 weight class, and was the team captain in 1942. He went undefeated as a freshman and dropped just one bout as a sophomore.
In January of 1943, Kish was inducted into the Army Air Corps, becoming a gunner on a B24 Liberator in the 15th Air Force out of Italy. On June 26, flying in his 31st mission, Kish was killed in action in a raid over Weiner Neustadt, Austria.
