A four-year letterman in track & field, Steele finished his career as an All-American at the NCAA outdoor championship meet in 1977.
Steele was a two-time 200 meter dash champion at the conference meet, taking home titles in 1974 and 1975. He was also on 4x400 meter relay teams that took home the conference championship four times. The 1977 four-man squad set an IUP record of 3:12.45 that still stands today.
Steele also once held school records in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.
Graduating in 1977 from IUP, Steele is currently the managing director of the Regency Group in Pittsburgh. He and his wife Jeri have two children, son Mike and daughter Kelly.
