As the only IUP basketball player, male or female, to register over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, Sherri Leysock-Williams is being enshrined for her outstanding career from 1987-91.
Leysock, a graduate of Homer-Center High School, has her name firmly entrenched in numerous categories in the IUP basketball record book.
While playing in the fourth most games in school history (110), she amassed 1,277 points, which is seventh in IUP annals. When she graduated, that figure was fourth best. Her career scoring average of 11.6 points per game ranks her 12th.
Leysock holds the school career record for rebounds with 1,075, ranks first in career rebounds per game with 9.8 and holds the single season record when she averaged 12.1 rebounds in 1989-90. That year she pulled down a record 328 rebounds, including a career high 19 against Edinboro. She led the Indians in rebounding in each of her four seasons.
Leysock made 500 field goals in her career, good for seventh all time, and made 51.8 percent of her shots, which is sixth best among players with at least 400 attempts. She shot a career high 55.6 percent in her freshman season of 1987-88, which is the fifth best mark in the school record book.
Leysock made 227 free throws, the ninth most in school history. At the end of her career, she held the school mark for blocked shots with 130 and currently stands third in that department.
Playing for Jan Kiger in 1987-88, Leysock helped lead IUP to the PSAC title and a first ever berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs. As the team MVP and a PSAC West all-star in 1989-90, she led the Indians to an 18-9 record. She was selected to the Fast Break All-America squad.
A highly decorated student as well as athlete, Ley sock appeared on the Dean's List during much of her academic career and received the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Women's Consortium Award.
After graduating magna cum laude from IUP, Leysock served as a graduate assistant coach for the 1991-92 season. She went on to earn her master's degree from Gannon University in 1994 and is employed at Visiting Nurse Association of Indiana County.
Leysock and her husband Travis are the parents of a son, Logan, and a daughter, GiIIian.
