In perhaps one of the greatest eras in IUP football history, Stan Celich was one of the best. Earning four varsity letters and 1989 All-PSAC West first team honors were just some of the individual accolades the defensive lineman has to his credit. Celich played from 1986-1989 and was part of two PSAC Championship squads. He helped IUP to a record of 38-9 (.809) with a 23-2 mark in the PSAC. The team made it into the NCAA playoffs in three of Celich’s four seasons.
Celich and fellow inductee Darren Cottrill were both part of a
historically great defensive squad in 1988 that held opponents to 75.1 rushing yards per game. A team captain, Celich led the team in tackles-for-loss his junior and senior year and in sacks his senior season.
Celich earned a degree in management from IUP in 1990. He has spent time as a defensive coordinator and softball coach around western Pennsylvania. He is the central region Vice President for Liberty Mutual Insurance in Pittsburgh. He has a wife, Patty, and two daughters. Sydney (20) is currently attending IUP as a math major, and Taylor (18) attends Point Park University on a track scholarship.
