One of the early superstars for the women’s basketball program, Sue Brecko graduated in 1987 as one of the best scorers the school has ever seen.
A two-time first team All-PSAC performer, Brecko left IUP with her name littered all over the program record books. Upon her graduation, she ranked second with 1,299 points, second with 546 field goals made, third with 207 free throws made and fourth with a career 12.6 scoring average. She also played in 103 games in her four years at IUP, which was first all-time. She also left school with a slew of season and game records, including an 18.7 points per game average as a senior.
20 years later and her name is still prominent among those books, as she’s still in the top 10 in 14 game, season or career IUP records.
Brecko helped IUP to 60 wins during her four years, including a 19-8 record during the 1983-84 season. She was a part of the 1984 PSAC West championship team and three conference tournament squads.
She earned an associate of science degree in 1991 and a bachelor of science in physical therapy from Findlay (Ohio) in 1999. She works as a physical therapist and lives in Pittsburgh with her partner, Marina.
