Most athletes will tell you that any success they may achieve really can’t be attributed to their efforts alone.  Many other voices, hearts, and minds contribute to the achievements of individuals and teams on the field of competition, no matter what form that takes.

Sylvia Noronha has been one of those active supporters of IUP Athletics for many years.  She has been a long-time promoter and champion of the Nell Jack Golf Classic, which benefits women’s athletics.  She also has demonstrated philanthropic generosity to the men’s and women’s swim teams at the university.  Sylvia also volunteers with the swim teams, including traveling with them to state and national meets.

A lifelong cross-country skiing enthusiast, the majority of her time today is spent volunteering with and for the INDY Piranha Swim Team, coaching, officiating and managing the swim meets at the YMCA.

Sylvia received bachelor’s degrees in hotel management (1986) and nursing (1990) while studying in Germany, and a master’s from Oxford in 1994, graduating with honors. After her eight-year career as a nurse, she moved to Boulder, Colorado, where she obtained her degree with honors in massage therapy in 1998, followed by a return to Oxford to combine massage therapy with nursing.

In 2000, she moved with her husband to Philadelphia and from there to Indiana, Pa. in 2007 where she now resides with her husband and three children; Yana, Luca, and Matteo.
