One might be hard-pressed to find a record that Theresa Thompson either didn’t break, or try her best to surpass.
As a member of the Women’s Basketball team from 1995 through 1999, she: made All-PSAC in 1997 and 1998; was team scoring leader 1996-98, and led the team to the PSAC Tournament twice, the PSAC West Championship in 1999, and its first Sweet 16 and Elite 8 appearance in the program’s history. Thompson scored a total of 1,223 and remains in the IUP Top 20 in, number of games played, scoring average, 1,000-point scorers, field goals made and attempted, three-pointers made and attempted; free throws made; free throw percentage; steals and assists. Plus, she served as a three-year captain, earned Dean’s List honors every semester and earned a 4.0 GPA in 1998-99, and was recognized as an IUP Scholar Athlete and ECAC Scholar Athlete award winner. During her high school years at Fox Chapel Area (PA), Thompson excelled, becoming the first 1,000-point scorer in basketball, setting the school record in javelin, and leading the softball team in pitching wins and home runs, before being inducted into the Fox Chapel Hall of Fame in 2005.
She remains in the Fox Chapel Area School District today as a first grade teacher. Thompson lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, Matt, and their children Brady, Danny, and Matthew.
