Leverage and power, the two factors most in play for football and wrestling. Appropriately, Tom Rogish was able to leverage his talent in both sports to achieve some powerful results.
As a three-year starter with the IUP football team from 1968 through 1971, Rogish achieved All-PSAC and NAIA All-American status as a linebacker. As an IUP wrestler, he won 50 matches, and advanced to the 1970 NCAA National Tournament. Rogish’s connection to IUP football continued for two decades as an assistant coach from 1986 to 2006, during which time the team made the NCAA Division II playoffs 14 times, four trips to the semi-finals, and two appearances in the NCAA Division II Championship.Other coaching stints for Rogish were at Juniata College (PA) and Shepherd University (WV).
After graduating from Bedford Area (PA) High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree from IUP in health and physical education in 1972 and a master’s degree in health and physical education from Frostburg State University in 1981.
