Trevor Hadley left his mark on IUP in many different ways.
A 1937 graduate, he was the first dean of students, appointed to the position in 1952, and became vice president for student affairs in 1972. In those capacities, he was responsible for programs such as residence hall management, financial aid and student employment, admissions and career services.
During his time at IUP, Hadley helped oversee the transition from a state teacher's college with 1,600 students to a university with an enrollment of over 12,000. He was involved in virtually all campus organizations, sports and fraternities and sororities.
Hadley was on the tennis team for four years while studying English and mathematics. He later earned a master's degree and Ph.D. in education from the University of Pittsburgh. He returned to IUP in 1946 as a professor of psychology and tennis coach and was the first coach to include women on a varsity team.
Hadley was president of the IUP Alumni Association from 1980-83 and was on the Indiana Area School District Board of Directors among other positions.
In 1985, as a testament to the level of respect he had on campus, students voted to name the new student union the S. Trevor Hadley Union Building.
Hadley and his wife, Olive, are the parents of Trevor Jr., William, Thomas, Charles and Elaine.
