AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks return to the Kovalchick Complex this weekend as they host the Seventh Annual Susan G. Komen “Shoot for the Cure” Classic. IUP will face Seton Hill on Sunday and Bowie State on Monday, with PSAC West rival Cal being the fourth team participating. Seton Hill enters the weekend with a 2-4 overall mark, while Bowie State is still winless at 0-6.
LAST TIME OUT
IUP continued its undefeated run to start the season by winning both of its games in PSAC crossover action, defeating East Stroudsburg and Kutztown both on the road.
The Crimson Hawks played a tight game with ESU on Friday evening, holding off the Warriors in the final minute for a 46-45 win. IUP held a 10-point lead with 10:06 remaining before ESU cut the deficit to one with 1:21 remaining. The Warriors had several chances to take the lead, but IUP continued to shut them down, getting a key block by Jr. F
Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) with 14 seconds remaining. She scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds for the game.
IUP had an easier time on Saturday, leading by as many as 23 points en route to a 66-47 win over the Golden Bears. Pastorek posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, while Fr. F

Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) each added 11 points.
THE LEADER
IUP leans on Jr. F
Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort), the best all-around player for the Crimson Hawks. Tops on the team with 13.8 ppg so far this season, she owns a 52.8 FG%, connecting on 47-89 from the field. Also 1st on the team with 7.3 rpg, Pastorek also leads the team with 16 steals and 4 blocks and is 3rd with 20 assists
Last season Pastorek led IUP in scoring (12.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg), and is the top returner in FG% (49.1), assists (42), blocks (16) and steals (56).
TOP FROSH

Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week on Dec. 5 after averaging 17.0 ppg, shooting 68.8 percent (11-16) from the field, helping to lead IUP to wins over Washington Adventist and Bloomsburg. She was a perfect 5-5 from the field against the Shock on Tuesday and finished 8-11 (72.7 pct.) from 3-point range.
For the season Mathe is 2nd on the team with 11.0 ppg and leads IUP with an incredible 61.3 FG% (19-31) in five games. She's also has a 62.5 3FG% (10-16) and averages 4.0 rpg.
PROVIDING A SPARK

Vianca Tejada (Pennsauken, NJ/Cherry Hill East) has has given the Crimson Hawks scoring off the bench this season, 4th on the team with 9.9 ppg. She's reached double-figures in scoring in five of the eight games, including a team-high 19 points in just 22 minutes in the five-point win over Shippensburg.
Tejada has been efficient from the field with a 51.9 FG% (27-52), going 7-9 from the field in the win over Washington Adventist. She's also been involved in other areas, grabbing 7 rebounds with 5 assists at Cheyney and coming up with 3 steals last Tuesday.
BENCH PRODUCTION
Led by Tejada, the Crimson Hawks bench has been a huge part of the team's perfect 8-0 start, outscoring opponents 279-102 for the season. Using anywhere from five-to-seven players off the bench, IUP has owned a huge advantage in every game, including a 59-2 advantage in the win over Washington Adventist last Tuesday.

Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) has provided production down low for the Crimson Hawks, scoring 10.3 ppg and grabbing 5.5 rpg, 2nd on the team, so far this season. Boasting a 52.7 FG% (29-55), Stoner has been even better when she gets to the charity stripe, where she's gone 24-28 (85.7 pct.).
Stoner scored a season-high 19 points in the Crimson Hawks win over Cheyney, going 5-7 from the field and 9-10 from the line, and has grabbed at least 6 boards in six of eight games this year.
SHOOTING THE “3”

Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center),
Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and Mathe have helped IUP to the top 3FG% in the PSAC, shooting 42.7 pct. (53-124) so far this year.
Mathe is knocking down 62.5 percent of her shots (10-16) on the year, including a 5-8 day against Bloomsburg and a perfect 3-3 against Washington Adventist. If she played enough games to qualify, Mathe would be tied for 1st in the PSAC.
Stapleton is 2nd in the PSAC with a 53.6 3FG%, hitting 15-28 from long range, while Fairman has gone 8-29 on the season, but started the year by hitting 8-17, a 47.1 percent clip.
As a team, the Crimson Hawks have made at least six 3-pointers in six games, including a 9-14 outing against Shippensburg.
THE TRANSFERS
A trio of transfers have seen valuable playing time this year for IUP, with So. G
Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) earning a start in each game. Transferring from UMass, Watson played in 21 games last year for the Minutewomen, is averaging 6.3 ppg with 24 assists this year. So. G
Jen Rasko (Windber/Windber) (Fairmont State) and So. F
Melanie Todd (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) (Lincoln Memorial) have also seen time, combining to score 35 points and grab 42 rebounds.
THE LOCALS
Three Crimson Hawks freshmen are from area schools, including a pair from Indiana HS. Mathe and Stapleton played for the Little Indians while Fairman graduated from Marion Center. They'll look to play an important role for the Crimson Hawks this season.
THE DOW FILE
Jeff Dow (Oregon '88) enters his fourth season as the head coach at IUP after leading the Crimson Hawks to a record of 19-8, 11-3 in the PSAC West and an appearance in the PSAC Quarterfinals last season.
Dow has a record of 70-24 at IUP and has led the Crimson Hawks to three consecutive PSAC tournament appearances during his tenure. Over the course of his first three years, Dow has set school records in winning 10 or more games in three consecutive seasons in PSAC West divisional games and for overall winning percentage in PSAC West games (.761).
