Mission Statement

The mission of the IUP Strength and Conditioning department is to maximize athletic performance while minimizing the risk of injury through the means of sound physiological training principles. As a by-product, our athletes will improve throughout their athletic career in the areas of work ethic, mental toughness, discipline, intrinsic motivation, and a strong sense of pride and self-confidence within themselves and their athletic abilities.

Coaching Philosophy

To meet athletes where they are at. To create better people first, better athletes second.

Training Philosophy

To train athletes holistically through the use of ground based, multi-dimensional, multi-join movements, to help reduce the likelihood of athletic related injuries. To remember and enforce the first rule of strength and conditioning, “Do No Harm.” To train the athletes in all four areas of training: Technical, Tactical, Physical, and Psychological, in different situations both in the weight room and on the field. This includes areas of Conditioning, Plyometrics, Change or Direction, Agility, Speed/Acceleration, Power, Max Strength, etc. To progress the athletes’ programs effectively and safely. To find where athletes are lacking and attack that weakness until they become proficient.

Internship/ Graduate Assistantship Opportunities

Internships and Graduate Assistantships are essential to the success of IUP’s Strength and Conditioning department and the athletes training. Those who complete these opportunities will gain valuable experience towards a future in the profession – including tangible work with program design as well as hands-on coaching experience. Internships start one week prior to the start of each semester and will last through the completion of the semester. Graduate Assistantships will start the first week of August of each school year and run through July of that following year. Graduate Assistants will have the opportunity to program and run 2-4 teams while assisting others.
It is a goal of Coach Bare to help develop and guide the next generation of strength coaches to the next step in their career. If you are interested in an internship or graduate assistantship, please email Coach Bare at ekbare@iup.edu
