College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.
Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the
At-Large program.
Both the Academic All-America® program and the Hall of Fame are nominated and voted upon exclusively by CSC members.

So far through the 2023-24 year, IUP has 65 CSC Academic All-America® all-time selections. Three former student-athletes have combined for four Academic All-America® Team member of the Year awards, including
Laura Hall (women's volleyball) twice as a College Division selection for her sport in 2001 and 2002,
Alex Hampel (men's track & field/cross country) as the Division II winner for his sport in 2016 and
Paige Mikesell (women's swimming) as the Division II winner in her sport in 2023.
