AUSTIN, Texas – IUP men's swimming standout
Luke Mikesell picked up another postseason honor, named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America® men's swimming second team as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Mikesell is the lone men's swimmer from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to earn the prestigious honor, awarded to those who excel academically and in the pool. He was previously named to the PSAC Winter Top 10 in April, which has similar criteria for recognition.
Johnny Kulow (Division I; Arizona State), Kyle Micallef (Division II; Florida Southern), Noah Hargrove (NCAA DIII; Kenyon) and Fabio Martin Rojo (NAIA; Lindsey Wilson) have been named Academic All-America® Team member of the Year for their respective divisions.
It marks the first CAC Academic All-America® award for Mikesell, who boasts a cumulative 3.56 grade point average as a criminology major. The 2023-24 PSAC Men's Most Outstanding Male Swimmer, Mikesell set the PSAC meet and school record in 500 free in 2023-24 (4:24.65).
A two-time PSAC Champion during the 2023-24 season in the 200 free (1:37.56) and 500 free (4:24.65), Mikesell qualified for the 2023-24 NCAA DII National Championships in both events. Named a CSC Academic All-District honoree earlier this year, the PSAC Top 10 honor is the first for Mikesell.
He boasts eight total All-PSAC finishes during his IUP career, awarded to the top three finishers at the PSAC Championships. He is an All-American in the 500 free, finishing fourth in the event at the 2021 NCAA DII Championships.
