AUSTIN, Tex. – IUP sophomore
Chris Temple (Malvern, Pa. /Great Valley) has been named a second team selection on the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II football team, which was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released on Wednesday afternoon.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Temple is an accounting major with a 3.60 cumulative grade point average. A running back, Temple finished 2015 ranked 15th in Division II with 121.2 rushing yards per game. The first year starter ran for 1,212 yards in 10 games and had 17 rushing touchdowns, which is tied for the fourth highest in single season program history.
He had two of the top eight single game rushing performances in school history this season, rushing for 255 yards against California (Pa.) and 234 yards against Edinboro. Temple scored six rushing touchdowns against Edinboro, which broke a school record and tied the all-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mark.
Temple becomes the 10th IUP football student-athlete to earn Academic All-America® honors and the first since offensive lineman Anthony DiPasquale and safety
Johnny Franco – both seniors – were second team selections in 2012.
It's the fifth straight year that IUP boasts at least one Academic All-America® selection.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
