AUSTIN, Texas – IUP senior
Hannah Mercer (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) has been named a second team selection on the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Softball Team, which was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released on Wednesday afternoon.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Mercer graduated earlier this month with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average as a double major in economics and marketing. Never failing to land on the Dean's List or be named a conference scholar-athlete, she earned perfect 4.0 GPA's in five of her last six semesters.
CoSIDA | 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Softball Teams Announced
IUP's 2016-17 Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year is one of six members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) on the 34-person academic squad that consists of 11 first team, 11 second team, and 12 third team selections.
A two-time Academic All-District™ selection, Mercer closed out her IUP softball career earlier this week and is regarded as one of the best players in program history. She wraps up four seasons in the crimson and gray ranking in the top 10 in 12 different career offensive categories, and will most certainly earn her fourth All-PSAC honor next week.
Mercer broke IUP career records with 221 hits, 135 runs scored, 343 total bases, and 624 at-bats. Her 45 doubles ranks second, and is third with 50 stolen bases and 177 games played – all starts. Other top ranks include a .354 batting average (fifth), 11 triples (sixth), 103 RBI (sixth), a .553 slugging percentage (seventh) and 19 home runs (tied for seventh).
