INDIANA, PA – The IUP women's basketball team has been busy prior to the 2011-12 season, as student-athletes and coaches have participated in several community service events, including the United Way of Indiana County Campaign Kickoff Event on September 14.

The theme for the event, which was held at the Rustic Lodge in Indiana, was “Be a Hero.” Local heroes such as
policemen, firemen and athletes were invited to take part in the event, as the United Way aims to make a difference in the community by addressing issues ranging from critical needs to quality of life.
Members of both the women's and men's teams at IUP acted as entertainers during the event, performing songs on stage for the volunteers and donors.

In addition to the United Way event, the women's team volunteered at the S&T Bank Picnic at the S&T Arena and Recreation Park in Indiana on September 17. Over 1,500 S&T employees attended the event, as the student-athletes lent a hand mainly with the kids' activities, which included a petting zoo, batting cages, arcade games, and crafts.
