HERSHEY, PA – Zack Kempa (Brantford, ON/Assumption College School) shot a four-under 140 for the individual title to lead IUP to its sixth consecutive championship at the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Golf Championships this weekend at Hershey Links.

The Crimson Hawks cruised on Sunday, shooting a six-under 282 as a team to build on their four-stroke lead from the first round. IUP finished with a nine-under 567 for the tournament, an incredible 18 strokes ahead of California (PA) for second place.

Kempa paced the Crimson Hawks with a three-under 69 on Sunday to follow up his one-under 71 in the first round. He sat in a tie for fourth place two strokes off the lead after the first day.

Jack Owen (Hampshire, U.K./Brockenhurst College) followed up his two-under 70 on Saturday by shooting even par in the second round as his 142 for the tournament tied him with four others for third place.

One of those four was Sean Sweithelm (Indiana/Indiana), who shot a one-under 71 in each round this weekend.

Kenny Sames (Moscow, Pa. /North Pocono) was the fourth IUP player to finish under par as he came in with a one-under 143. He was one of seven players to shoot 72 or under on Sunday, finishing with a two-under 70.

Derek Baker (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) also competed for IUP this weekend, finishing in a tie for 24th with a 15-over 159.

Charlie Durman of California finished one shot back of Kempa with a three-under 141 while West Chester's Connor Lefever, Cal's Jordan Eck and Millersville's Robert Coyne all tied for third with a two-under 142.

Cal sat four strokes back with a one over 289 after the first round then shot an eight-over 296 to finish the tournament with a 585. West Chester finished 26 strokes back in third place with a 593 while Millersville was 44 strokes behind IUP with a 611. Mercyhurst came in fifth place with a 617 while Gannon came in sixth with a 624 and Clarion finished in seventh with a 640.

In addition to being IUP's sixth consecutive PSAC championship, it was also the 26th in the history of the program. IUP has won nine titles since 2000 after winning five each in the decades of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Kempa becomes the seventh straight IUP golfer to win the individual title, joining Brad Boyle (Kingston, ON/Frontenac Secondary) (2011, 2009), Sweithelm (2010), Leo Acklin (2008) and Gavin Smith (2007, 2006) during the run.

That wraps up the fall season for IUP, as the Crimson Hawks won four of their six events while also notching second and fourth place finishes. Play will pick up in the spring season in March.
