IUP Baseball Assists in the Community

INDIANA, PA - The IUP baseball team took part in several volunteer programs over the winter as part of their service to the Indiana community.

On July 23, 2012, IUP head baseball coach Jeff Ditch represented the IUP athletic department on a nine day trip to Haiti's Island of Tortuga and the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, as part of Hearts for the Hungry organization.  Each spring semester IUP athletics raise money to be donated to Haiti's Hearts for the Hungry.

On October 10, 2011, The  team participated in Indiana's Day of Play.  The event was sponsored by IndiKids, Children's Advisory Commission of Indiana County, Indiana County Community Engagement, Evergreen Boys and Girls Club, and the Community Guidance Center and was held at the S&T Bank Arena in the White Township Recreation Complez. Over 375 local children and families participated in the Day of Play.  This was the fifth year IUP baseball has helped with this event.

On November 1, 2011, The squad helped with the United Way Pancake and Sausage Day at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.  This event is part of the local campaign to raise $775,000. The United Way of Indiana County helps our community by meeting critical needs and improving the quality of life throughout Indiana County by inspiring and uniting its residents.  This was the seventh year IUP baseball has helped with this event.

On November 23, 2011, Ditch was a guest server at the Thanksgiving Holiday United Way fundraiser at the Coney in downtown Indiana as part of the local campaign to raise $775,000. The IUP Athletic Department is dedicated to giving back to the Indiana Community, and IUP student-athletes strive to make a difference in their neighborhood.
