Men’s Indoor Fifth after First Day of PSAC Track & Field Championships

LEWISBURG, PA – The second place finish of the IUP Distance Medley Relay highlighted the opening day for the Crimson Hawks at the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The two-day championship meet is being held at Bucknell University's Gerhard Field House.

The Crimson Hawks are fifth overall with 14 points, 34 behind leader Lock Haven with 48. Shippensburg has 46 after day one while Slippery Rock has 41.5 and East Stroudsburg has 35.

The distance medley was just edged for first place, finishing less than a second behind winner Lock Haven with a time of 10:07.74. The Bald Eagles ran a time of 10:07.04. Competing for the Crimson Hawks were Andrew Morgan (Ulysses, Pa. /Northern Potter), Troy Zangaro (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Hills), Jonathan Stiles (Sharon Hill/Penn Wood) and Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono).

The 4x800 meter relay team of Stiles, Zangaro, Aaron Snook (Duncannon/Susquenita) and Joe Lynch (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) came in sixth place with a time of 8:12.13. Also turning in a sixth place finish was Nick Patton (Canton/Canton) in the 5000 meter run, finishing with a time of 15:09.88, a little over 16 seconds off the lead.

Also competing on the opening day was Matt Rutt (Sinking Spring/Wilson), who turned in a 13th place finish in the 5000 and Jeffrey Robinson (Philadelphia/Freire Charter School), who came in 13th place in the prelims of the 60 meter dash.

Day two picks up on Sunday morning with the women's long jump at 11 a.m. It's scheduled to conclude with the women's 4x400 meter relay at 4:50 p.m.
