Brett Ullman (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) has been named to Watch List for the 2014 Fred Mitchell Award, as announced on Wednesday. He is one of 36 kickers, including 12 from Division II.
The Fred Mitchell Award is awarded annually to a collegiate place kicker honoring their hard work on the field as well as in the community.
Ullman was second on the team in points scored last season with 70. He was also 8-of-12 from field goal range, which includes five from outside of 40-yards. The three-time All-PSAC kicker made 46 PATs last season, and is closing in on three career kicking records. Already the owner of the single season field goal record for IUP, the senior will attempt to become the program's leader in points, field goals, and extra points.
He has volunteered with Fit for a Cause.
The annual Fred Mitchell Outstanding Place-Kicker Award is provided to the nation's top collegiate place kicker among more than 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA football teams. The Award is named for Fred Mitchell, the record-setting place-kicker, Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Famer, author, philanthropist and Chicago Tribune sports columnist. The recipient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be chosen based on excellence on the football field and in the community.
The winner will be announced in February with monthly recognition coming September through November.
