Devante Chance Named First Team All-District by the NABC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – IUP senior guard Devante Chance (Philadelphia, Pa. /Electrical & Technology Charter) has added another postseason honor to his collection as he was named first team All-Atlantic District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Monday morning.

The release comes as the Crimson Hawks prepare for the Division II Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind. this week. IUP will face Azusa Pacific (Calif.) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. (EST) in the national quarterfinals.

Chance has been the team leader for IUP all season long, leading the Crimson Hawks their first Atlantic Region title since 2010 and a 29-6 overall record entering the Elite Eight. He was also named first team All-Atlantic Region by Daktronics and was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Year.

Arguably the top point guard in the region, Chance is fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 16.5 points per game and 18th in Division II with 5.8 assists per contest. He's one of only four players in the nation – and the only one in the region – to average at least 16 points and 5.8 assists per game.

He turned his game up in the NCAA Atlantic Regional tournament, averaging 19.0 points while shooting 59.4 percent from the field in wins over Glenville State, Slippery Rock and four-time defending regional champion West Liberty. Chance also shot 54.5 percent from three-point range, 86.7 percent from the foul line, dished out 16 assists and swiped nine steals in those three IUP victories.

Chance has reached double-figures in scoring 31 times this year, netting eight 20-point games, including a career-high 31 points against Clarion on Senior Night. He has four double-doubles on the season, and tied a career-high with 10 assists on four separate occasions.

One of the co-captain's several milestones on the season came again against Clarion, becoming the IUP men's basketball program's all-time leader in career assists. Chance passed Smith, a former teammate who tallied 456 in four seasons, and enters the Elite Eight with 497. His 202 dimes this year is an IUP single season record.

Chance also scored in 1000th career-point against Mercyhurst on Feb. 11, becoming the fourth player in program history to post career totals of at least 1,000 points and 400 assists, joining Smith, Eddie Peterson and Yancey Taylor.

He's also one of the top shooters in the PSAC, ranking eighth with a 46.7 field goal percentage and a 39.7 three-point percentage, and 10th with a free throw percentage of 80.2. Chance also second with a total of 75 three-pointers on the season. Chance's 53 steals this year are tied for fourth in the PSAC and he also leads the league with 37.8 minutes played per game.
