INDIANAPOLIS - The IUP women's tennis team has been selected to compete in the 2015 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, which was announced by the NCAA on Tuesday night. IUP will serve as one of two host schools in the Atlantic Region as the tournament gets underway on Saturday, May 2.
It will be IUP's sixth straight trip to the NCAA championships and eighth overall.
The Crimson Hawks will enter the NCAA postseason as the second seed in the Atlantic, earning hosting privileges along with top seeded California (Pa). IUP will host third seed Mercyhurst, sixth seed West Liberty and seventh seed Shaw.
IUP will be matched up with Shaw in the opening round on Saturday while Mercyhurst and West Liberty will face each other. The winners will meet up on Sunday, May 3 for the right to head to the NCAAs round of 16 in Surprise, Ariz. on May 13-16.
The Crimson Hawks were ranked second in the Atlantic Region all season long and are currently the 42nd ranked team in Division II by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Action gets underway on Saturday with IUP and Shaw at 11 a.m. Mercyhurst and West Liberty are scheduled for 3 p.m. The Sunday championship match is set for noon.
