Petercakova & von Agris Make History, Win PSAC Doubles Championship

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – IUP's Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Doubles Championship on Sunday afternoon as the league championships wrapped up at Bloomsburg University.

Petercakova and von Agris become the first doubles PSAC champions in IUP history, as the Crimson Hawk duo defeated Claire Uhl and Maddy Shaak of West Chester 8-2 in the doubles championship match.

The pairing advanced to the title match on Sunday with a dominating 8-1 semifinal win over Mercyhurst's Saioa Gomez and Annie Baich, the top seeded team in the bracket. Petercakova and von Agris went a combined 4-0 over the weekend, starting as the No. 4 seed and defeating the top two seeds.

Doubles play was suspended on Saturday due to rain, with Petercakova and von Agris turning a 5-5 tie at the interruption into a win. The Crimson Hawks' other doubles pairing of Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and Ekaterina Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) was also in the semifinals, but fell to Uhle and Shaak by a score of 8-1.

Petercakova nearly pulled a double this weekend, finishing as the runner-up for the singles title.

The senior fell in a tie break to Mercyhurst's Gomez by scores of 6-4, 4-6 (10-7) in the title match. The second seed in the bracket, Petercakova pushed through the semifinals with a 6-1, default victory over Slippery Rock's Carla Corrachano Morracho before falling to the tournament's top seed.

Von Agris missed out on a chance to take down Gomez, falling 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Petercakova, von Agris and the Crimson Hawks wrap up their fall competition on Friday with a dual match against West Chester at the Maple Street Courts.
