Max Kirsch named IUP Men’s Postseason Performer of the Year

Crimson & Gray Awards |

INDIANA, Pa. – Senior golfer Max Kirsch (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) has been named the 2016-17 IUP Men's Postseason Performer of the Year. The award was announced on Monday, June 12 by the IUP Athletic Department.

The award is part of the newly established Crimson & Gray Awards, which recognize the top athletes, coaches, teams and performances of the IUP Athletics season.

The Postseason Performer Athlete of the Year Award is in its first year of existence.

Kirsch was crowned the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champion, earning medalist honors by shooting a four-over 146 to lead the Crimson Hawks to the league's team championship in the fall.

The senior sat six strokes back in a tie for 15th place after the first round at the Hershey Country Club, shooting a seven-over 78, as IUP wrapped up the opening day of the tournament two strokes off the overall lead.

Kirsch came roaring back in the final round, shooting a three-under 68 to climb 14 spots and tie Andrew Patterson of West Chester, defeating him in a playoff hole.

Sunday's 68 was a collegiate career-best for Kirsch, and also the best round of any player during the two-day tournament. It was his second career individual win.

The performance helped IUP win the team title by two strokes, the program's 27th all-time conference championship.
