Jarka Petercakova and Luise von Agris voted IUP Women’s Performance of the Year

Crimson & Gray Awards | CGA Finalists List

INDIANA, Pa. – The women's tennis duo of Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) have been awarded the 2016-17 IUP Women's Performance of the Year. The honor was announced on Tuesday, June 6 by the IUP Athletic Department.

The award is part of the newly established Crimson & Gray Awards, which recognize the top athletes, coaches, teams and performances of the IUP Athletics season.

The Performance of the Year Award is in its first year of existence.

Petercakova and von Agris combined to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Tennis Doubles Championship this past fall. It was the first PSAC doubles title in program history.

IUP's top doubles pair defeated West Chester's Claire Uhl and Maddy Shaak by a score of 8-2 in the championship match in Bloomsburg, wrapping up a perfect 4-0 weekend at the 2016 PSAC Individual Championships.

Going in as the fourth seed, Petercakova and von Agris defeated Cassidy Callmer and Anna Newcomer of Bloomsburg 8-0, and California's Veronika Mikulis and Alyssa Savilli 8-5 to advance to the semifinals. They moved onto the finals with a dominating 8-1 win over Mercyhurst's Saioa Gomez de Segura and Annie Baich, who had won the ITA Atlantic Region Championships the weekend prior.

The win helped the pair vault up the rankings, as they were sat first in the Atlantic Region and 15th in Division II when the ITA released its individual rankings in November.
