Senior women's basketball player Leslie Stapleton was named an IUP Athlete of the Week, for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 22. Stapleton helped lead the Crimson Hawks to a 2-1 record last week, with wins at Mercyhurst (68-57) and over East Stroudsburg (88-66), before dropping tough game to 25th-ranked West Chester (92-79). The guard averaged 19.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Stapleton was on fire from the outside, connecting on 55.3 percent of her field goal attempts (21-of-38), including 10 three-pointers, and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line. Her big game came against West Chester, scoring a career-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line.
For the year, Stapleton leads IUP with 18.8 points per game, a 52.9 field goal percentage, and 13 three-pointers made.
