Women's basketball player Zhané Brooks has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, January 4. The award takes into account games dating back to the week starting on Monday, December 7. It's Brooks' second IUP weekly honor of the year.
The senior forward helped lead the Crimson Hawks to five straight wins, including three wins during this lastest weekly award nomination period. Brooks is averaging 16.7 points and 11.7 rebounds over the last three, including back-to-back double-doubles at Edinboro (20 points, 16 rebounds) and at Cheyney (21 points, 15 rebounds).
The Crimson Hawks have won their last three games by an average of 14.7 points, with their biggest win coming at home over 13th-ranked California (Pa.), defeating the Vulcans 78-72. They also defeated Edinboro and Cheyney on the road by scores of 74-59 and 56-34, respectively.
Brooks leads the Crimson Hawks this year with 7.5 rebounds per game and is second on the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. IUP is 10-3 overall and is second in the PSAC West with a 7-2 conference record.
