Basketball player Megan Smith was named an IUP Athlete of the Week for the second straight time, for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 17. Smith made contributions all over the court for the women’s team, averaging 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 blocks in two games last week. She shot 32.1 percent from the floor, going 3-of-5 from three-point range and a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line.
The sophomore guard secured her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in an 87-86 overtime loss at Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday. She nearly missed another double-double on Saturday against Clarion with 15 points and nine rebounds, but added five assists and a career-high five blocks in the Crimson Hawks 68-57 victory.
Smith is averaging 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds for the PSAC West-leading Crimson Hawks (13-4, 10-3) and is tops in the conference with 32 blocks this year.
