Basketball player Brandon Norfleet was named an IUP Athlete of the Week for the fourth straight time for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 24. Norfleet scored a career-high 38 points in 37 minutes Wednesday in IUP’s 81-63 victory over visiting Seton Hill. The 38 points are tied for 11th most in school history, tying Jack Crossan (1954 and 1956), Lee McCullough (1970) and Terrance Flowers (1997).
Norfleet’s effort was also the most points by an IUP player since Eddie Peterson dropped in 42 against Juniata in 2005, and the most points scored in the five-year history of the Kovalchick Complex.
On 9-of-14 shooting in the first half, the senior guard scored 24 points in the first half. He finished the game going 15-for-23 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, while also adding four assists, four rebounds and two steals for IUP.
Norfleet now has 12 20-point games, including three times in which he’s gone over the 30-point plateau, and leads the PSAC in scoring at 22.5 points per game. IUP, on an eight-game winning streak, moves to 14-5 overall and 11-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
