Basketball player Marina Wareham was named an IUP Athlete of the Week for the first time for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 24.
Wareham, in her first season as the Crimson Hawks’ starting point guard, scored 19 points, grabbed five rebounds and had three steals in IUP’s 64-49 win over Seton Hill.
With both offenses struggling early on, Wareham outscored Seton Hill in the second quarter while dropping eight of IUP’s 12 points to help the Crimson Hawks take a 23-14 halftime lead. IUP is now 14-4 overall and in first place in the PSAC West with an 11-3 record.
Wareham now has 10 games of double-figure scoring and averages 10.9 points per game, good for fourth on the team. Her 43.8 percent 3-point shooting is third in the conference for qualified players, and just 0.1 percent off from the lead.
