Senior basketball player Brandon Norfleet has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 7.
Norfleet led the Crimson Hawks to a pair of wins against Mercyhurst and Edinboro on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively, to stretch IUP’s win streak to 12 consecutive games.
IUP sits in first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division with a 15-3 record. The Crimson Hawks are 18-5 overall.
An IUP Athlete of the Week now for the sixth-straight week, Norfleet averaged 19 points, six assists and five rebounds in the two wins. Wednesday’s 22-point outing against Mercyhurst was his seventh-straight game of scoring at least 20 points, a stretch in which he averaged 26.6 and included a career-high 38 points Jan. 20 against Seton Hill.
The PSAC’s leading scorer, Norfleet has 15 games of at least 20 points for the Crimson Hawks. On the year, he’s shooting 48 percent from the field, 43.6 percent from 3-point range and 78.6 percent from the free throw line.
