Senior basketball player Zhane Brooks has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 14.
Brooks had a huge game against Slippery Rock Saturday, scoring 25 points and flirting with a triple-double with eight rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Teaming with Smith and senior Leslie Stapleton, Saturday’s game is believed to be the first time three IUP women’ basketball players scored more than 20 points in the same game.
In a full 40 minutes, Brooks hit on 9-of-17 shots from the floor and went 7-for-10 from the foul line as IUP moved to 18-6 overall and 15-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Against Clarion on Wednesday, Brooks scored 16 points and hauled down seven rebounds. On the year, she’s the Crimson Hawks’ leading rebounder, at 7.3, and second in points per game, at 14.3.
She’s an Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
