Redshirt sophomore sprinter Julius Rivera has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending on Sunday, February 28.
Rivera continues his assault on the IUP sprinting record books, as he tied his own school record in the 60-meter dash in 6.80 seconds, out-leaning Shippensburg's Andrew Adighibe by .01 seconds. It was the second career indoor 60-meter title, as the transfer from California (Pa.) won last year running as a Vulcan.
Rivera, an Athlete of the Week for the second time, broke the school record in the 60-meter dash of 6.85 seconds Feb. 20 at the Kent State Tune-Up. He has sprinted faster than 6.85 seconds four times since then.
The 6.80 time is good for an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
