INDIANA, Pa. – Senior baseball player Matt Douglas and reshman has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending on Sunday, March 27.
Douglas’s baseball team went 4-1 during the week and swept Clarion in a doubleheader Saturday. In the first game, Douglas pitched a gem, going the distance of all seven innings for his first career complete game in the 6-2 Crimson Hawks’ victory.
Douglas struck out a career-high 10 batters and scattered four hits and a walk while giving up just two earned runs. In his last two starts, Douglas has a 1-1 record with a combined 16 strikeouts and three earned runs allowed.
In Saturday’s game, Douglas came out of the gate strong, retiring the first seven Clarion batters. Up 6-2 in the top of the fifth, Douglas then retired the last nine Golden Eagles’ batters to complete the win.
On the year, Douglas is second on the team in strikeouts with 33 and his 2-3 record is tied for best on the team.
