Graduate softball player Brooke Darling has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending on Sunday, April 3.
Darling is an Athlete of the Week for the first time after the IUP softball team went 4-2 in away games against Seton Hill, Clarion and Mansfield. Darling started three games for IUP, going 2-1 with two complete games, 19 strikeouts and a 0.41 ERA over 17 innings.
Against Seton Hill Tuesday, Darling tossed a two-hit, complete game shutout in IUP’s 3-0 win, completing a sweep of the Griffins. The eight strikeouts were a season-high, and the complete game was her seventh of the year.
On the year, Darling has an 8-2 record with a 2.58 ERA. She’s given up multiple runs just four times in 13 appearances on the season and is second on the team in ERA, while leading with 69.2 innings pitched.
