Senior lacrosse player Amy Weinberg has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement Monday for the week ending Sunday, April 10.
Weinberg led the No. 19-ranked Crimson Hawks to a 1-1 record on the week, with a victory over home-standing Slippery Rock and a narrow 9-8 home loss to No. 7 West Chester. The Crimson Hawks are 8-5 overall, with four of their losses coming against teams ranked 12th or better in the nation.
The senior midfielder scored a combined two goals and dished out four assists in the two games, and her six points were tops on the team over that stretch. Weinberg led IUP with 11 ground balls with seven draw controls and four caused turnovers.
On the year, Weinberg is second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with 46 assists. She entered the year as the IUP all-time leader in that category, and her 46 assists so far this season have her career total up to 182.
