Senior lacrosse player Amy Weinberg has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending Sunday, April 17.
Weinberg’s lacrosse team went undefeated on the week, picking up three key conference victories over Mercyhurst, Edinboro and Kutztown with the attacker scoring 19 points on five goals and 14 assists. The Crimson Hawks’ record now stands at 11-5 overall and 9-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
In the game against Mercyhurst Tuesday, the Crimson Hawks took down the No. 5 team in the nation, beating the Lakers 11-7 on the road for the team’s first win over a ranked opponent this high since 2014. Weinberg dished out two assists, breaking the career PSAC record in that category.
The two-time All-American Weinberg’s PSAC assists record now stands at 198 total helpers, and she’s second in IUP program history with 263 points through Monday.
Hess’s hot bat helped IUP split a four-game series with California (Pa.), as the junior went a combined eight-for-14 with five doubles, two homeruns and eight RBI. He also scored five runs and had a slugging percent of 1.357.
